Finishing Backstage, Car Crashes & Swapmeets

In the studio it's so cold that I turn on the heat gun and hang it from a nail. If you hear that the studio had burnt down then it's probably that or the latex oven that's set to full and door-less. ...

Static Electricity, M&M and Galahs

Tuesday April 14 2009

Have I told you about the static electricity in the building? With the dry heat, humble reader, the static comes out of the walls like "brown wood roaches onto a bin crudely made by hanging a plastic bag on a nail, that, yes I did say I was going to put out - but c'mon baby - I’m relaxing"...

Hot Glue, Scene 13 and being daunted...

Friday September 5 2008

Ahh Perth… sunny, dry and far from where you have to be in 10 mins... yes I might concede that the public transport system takes a little longer but meh.. So for the last 7 months I’ve been in Melbourne doing some guff and bunk on a stop- mo feature which...

AA, Apostrophes and Abraham Lincoln

Friday February 1 2008

Currently I'm in Melbourne and will be here for 5 months. I have another stint of 'Max and Mary' the Adam Elliot stop-motion feature. I'm an Animation Assistant which we call an AA to save time - as enough is wasted building cabinets that I swore I measured...

6 weeks, tasty skills and top shelves

Tuesday November 13 2007

Hmm... well for the last 6 weeks I’ve been working over in Melbourne-icanic-o-tron-land tempest place... on a stop motion feature film called Mary and Max. My position was called 'slashing' which is the verb for 'slasher' the noun. This role was a hybrid of Animation assisting and model making. So when an animator is about to start his shot I help lock things down and set up the sets and collect props, then in my down time I make props. The last item I made was a bag. I hope this doesn't spoil the plot.. knowing a bag is in it. But the film looks very slick and the crew on it were amazing. About 45 people who were all super, 3 of which were Perth boys. I learnt some stuff about moulds and weathering and the wonders of super glue and kicker. Oh and styrene. That's stuff is great for making bags...

Currently I'm attempting to go back to work on Cedric and Hope with all my new mad tasty skills. I made a squid and I flocked a bunny. I also knocked over a tower on my first day back smashing the plaster creation of 4 feet into many tiny tiny bits. I then found them all and glued them together and with a wave of my hand said 'the cracks will add character'. If Steve broke the tower I would have chased him with a length of 2×4 and eventually caught him. He gets so tired when I don't feed him. Hmmm I made a cart and painted the war machine and complained that we've run out of space. Gah. I facebook a lot now...

Steve is currently on working on 'To Hell and Bourke' so the studio is hot and no longer smelling like morning dew on a petal, just as the sun rises over a green meadow warming the grass to lift the scent to my nose as I notice the pig smelting factory to my left and I wonder why would they build a pig smelting factory in such a picturesque area. Inhale. That last bit was a gag. Steve is great. He also helps me get all the stuff from very high shelves.

I had lunch with Jacob. He and I ate Japanese in Leederville. He lost his soccer game. Erm... I'm thinking of cutting Cedric and Hope down. Also I want Bert Newton to be in it somehow. That man is a God.
