Finishing Backstage, Car Crashes & Swapmeets
Wednesday July 29 2009
In the studio it's so cold that I turn on the heat gun and hang it from a nail. If you hear that the studio had burnt down then it's probably that or the latex oven that's set to full and door-less. ...
Static Electricity, M&M and Galahs
Tuesday April 14 2009
Have I told you about the static electricity in the building? With the dry heat, humble reader, the static comes out of the walls like "brown wood roaches onto a bin crudely made by hanging a plastic bag on a nail, that, yes I did say I was going to put out - but c'mon baby - I’m relaxing"...
Hot Glue, Scene 13 and being daunted...
Friday September 5 2008
Ahh Perth… sunny, dry and far from where you have to be in 10 mins... yes I might concede that the public transport system takes a little longer but meh.. So for the last 7 months I’ve been in Melbourne doing some guff and bunk on a stop- mo feature which...
AA, Apostrophes and Abraham Lincoln
Friday February 1 2008
Currently I'm in Melbourne and will be here for 5 months. I have another stint of 'Max and Mary' the Adam Elliot stop-motion feature. I'm an Animation Assistant which we call an AA to save time - as enough is wasted building cabinets that I swore I measured...
6 weeks, tasty skills and top shelves
Tuesday November 13 2007
Hmm... well for the last 6 weeks I’ve been working over in Melbourne-icanic-o-tron-land tempest place... on a stop motion feature film called Mary and Max. My position was called 'slashing' which is the verb for 'slasher' the noun. This role was a hybrid of Animation assisting and model making...

Microwaving Cereal, 2009 Calendars and Minerals Carried by Rain
Tuesday May 29 2007
Microwaving cereal doesn't make it dinner. Professor pebbles is totally done. So much so that Bernard Derriman has seen it and asked about the next one... he obviously has a calendar that goes up to 2009. Boy I hope our executive producer doesn't read this as our due date is June 30th as in 35 days away. I really have to start setting the films in small cosy apartments. Maybe make them moody and set at night. Truthfully the animating is the shortest bit. 3 months is like super quick. Post production takes forever and set building... oh the set building.
The courtyard for Cedric and Hope is vaguely arranged. We had a visit from Screenwest (our EP’s) so we threw everything together and painted it. It's all a little uniform paint wise but Steve will work his magic. His weathering magic. That's where we muck it up and our perception of how things collect and form is put to the test. How areas that are trampled by human traffic become soiled, how leaves collect from wind spiraling off like an ox bow lake of stagnant, how rain carries minerals and deposits it in groove directed flow, how monkeys fling their poo at the castles in an attempt to spell out their monkey names...
The studio is freezing. We are using the paint stripper to warm ourselves. That thing goes up to 560 degrees and was never designed for that use. I've lost all my knuckle hair... also I think I need more bacon in my diet.
We had a screening for Professor Pebbles. I couldn't find a few peoples email addresses so I apologise if you didn't get an invite. Yes... Erm... awkward silence. I did a quick speech before and finally got to do my "I promised myself I wouldn't cry" and then pull out a pen and tick my speech. I say this uncrying... er you had to be there. awkward silence. The screening went very well we had lots of people and booze and stuff. Also I was in the Sunday Times. They cut my line "my special pen replaces my lucky carrot which went brown and shrunk". Ugh...
Jacob and I are heading off to Europe and the States in a few days. London, Anency, New York, Miami, San Diego, LA, Vegas. I have a list of things to do which include drinking a Mr Pib and eating a Twinky. I also want to track down all the awesome people involved in the making of the Venture Bros. I don't know what to do if I meet them - except I believe Doc Hammer likes coffee... maybe I can get them to give me some pointers on the film we/re currently making. Could use a tweak/overhaul...
Today Steve spent the good part of the day making a hinge. I spent the better half of the day drawing a wall. Now do you see why you need a calendar that goes to 2009?
This self-glorification is by Pierce Davison. He received 51% in TEE English so you can email spelling corrections etc to spelling@davisonbros.com
Or you know, look at what's blathered rather than how its blathered. ps its blather.
